What would you do if your children were hungry and you had absolutely nothing to feed them?
Amarante Desir, a poor mother in Haiti, has only one solution: she prays.
It breaks Amarante’s heart when she can’t ease her children’s hunger. She breaks down in tears as she describes her family’s desperate situation. The family lives in a dilapidated shack in the sprawling slum of Cité Soleil. Some days they have nothing to eat.
Although food is scarce in the household, prayer is abundant. When there is no food for the children, Amarante prays, “God, here are Your children. You gave them to me and they are Yours. Please help me.” Amarante explains, “I feel better after I pray, knowing that God will not leave me, but will give me strength. I feel God’s presence when I pray.”
“May Your kindness, Lord, be upon us; we have put our hope in You.” (Psalm 33:22)
Throughout the world, food and fuel prices have skyrocketed recently. These increases are especially difficult for those who struggle daily for survival.
Amarante sums up her suffering family’s plight in saying, “If there’s any way you can help us, we’d really appreciate it.”

A child’s needs are universal: food… clothing… shelter… education… and love. Children depend on adults to provide these necessities. When children don’t have the support of a family, they must rely on the kindness and compassion of others.
For a few dollars a day, you can assist a family in getting back on their feet.
Throughout the Caribbean and Latin America, families have been broken up for the lack of love and support. Through the Tim Hardaway’s Assist a family program, you can provide both.
The Tim Hardaway foundation has specifically selected Food For The Poor as its partner in the Caribbean and Latin America for the implementation of our Assist a Family program. These are families that have lost everything during this hurricane season.
Without this program, many of these families would be faced with the horrors of homelessness and starvation, and would probably have to part from each other in the hope of surviving easier on their own. We need your help to rescue and care for as many families as possible.
Sadly, many of these families experienced little, if any, support from their government. This is why your love, care and concern are so important. Financially, you will be providing the family you sponsor with the material items they need to survive for a month: food, clothing, shelter, educational supplies and medical necessities. We also have special Easter and Christmas celebrations for those families, which your generous gifts help provide. More importantly though, you will be a beacon of God’s love; letting a needy family know that they are special and important.
